Kobi May’s Air Force graduation became the backdrop to an unforgettable first meeting between the newly minted Airman and his newborn niece. The magical moment happened at his tap out ceremony at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where Kobi could barely keep his emotions in check.
Click on the video below to see a tearful Airman tapped out by his baby niece.
Darcy May was born just 24 hours after Kobi left for basic training. He was bitterly disappointed to miss her birth but to make up for it, he penned his new niece a sweet letter.
“The letter was beautiful,” said Katy May, Darcy’s mom. “And we had all been anxiously anticipating the moment Kobi got to finally meet Darcy.”
The moment arrived at the coin ceremony, which marked Kobi's transition from Air Force trainee to Airmen. Darcy arrived in the arms of her grandmother and was given the honor of tapping out her uncle.
“We were all an emotional mess,” Katy said. “The emotions consisted of excitement, anxiousness, and so much pride for our family's newest Airman... Seeing them together was everything we dreamed of. It was such a precious moment that I will cherish forever.”
