Joshua Jackson Shares Where He Thinks Dawson's Creek's Pacey Witter and Joey Potter Are Today

You won’t want to wait to find out where Joshua Jackson imagines his Dawson’s Creek character now.
And fans can breathe a sigh of relief as more than 20 years after Katie Holmes' Joey Potter finally chose Jackson's Pacey Witter over the titular Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) in the series finale, the Mighty Ducks alum sees the duo still living out their happily ever after.
"Yeah," Jackson exclusively told E! News' Francesca Amiker at the Los Angeles premiere of upcoming series Dr. Odyssey Sept. 18. "Why not?" (for more from Jackson, tune in to E! News at 11 p.m.)
The 46-year-old added, "I think he would be raising her kids, if she's out chasing her dreams. I think that's the way that was going."
But while Jackson's vision for Joey and Pacey’s future paints an adorable picture—one Joey could possibly paint on the wall he bought her—series creator Kevin Williamson previously suggested the characters wouldn’t make it in the long haul.
"I think Pacey and Joey got married. I think they had a family. I think there were troubles. I think they got a divorce," he told Entertainment Weekly in 2018. "I think that when we meet them, they're in a very dark place. But there’s still something between them that forces them to come together and raise their children."
Williamson continued, "As they seek out happiness with others, they just keep coming back to each other. And they just can’t stop that magical thing that exists between them and that bond they have. I think we would sort of have to watch them fall in love all over again as middle-aged adults."
But as for whether fans will one day be able to see Joey and Pacey’s future in a revival, both Jackson and Holmes—who dated in real life years before their characters—are both against the idea of a reboot.
"I don't know why you'd want to [bring it back]," Jackson told Mr Porter in 2021. "Nobody needs to know what those characters are doing in middle age. We left them in a nice place. Nobody needs to see that Pacey's back hurts. I don't think we need that update."
As for Holmes, while she’s expressed gratitude for Dawson's Creek, she similarly doesn’t think catching up with the Capeside crew decades later would actually work well.
"I think it's great that you are nostalgic for it," the 45-year-old said in a 2022 Screenrant interview. "So am I. But it's like, do we want to see them not at that age? I don't know. I don't think [so]. We all decided we don't actually."
